I was a newspaperman for more than 30 years and a freelance writer and reviewer after that. In other words, I was paid for writing. Not paid a lot and not exactly the first circle of writing heaven, but a paid hack nevertheless. Myself, I would not write unless I expected to get paid for it. I maintain a blog, but that is almost exclusively old stuff (that I got paid for) warmed up. I likely will not do that for much longer.
