I don’t count the TV Guide although I've bought that for much longer. I used to buy a lot more science fiction magazines but I found that all you need to do is stick with one faithfully and eventually they'll cover what you want to read. Other than that I bought MOJO when Blondie reformed and when Kate Bush released Aerial but that's it. I think the Internet was the final nail in the coffin for me. All I needed were bullet points. I didn’t have time for anything else.

My family never bought magazines except maybe the Exchange and Mart which was the 1960s equivalent of E-Bay so it wasn't till I was earning my own money that I got to dip into that world. The only one I stuck with for any length of time was The Listener which was basically a supplement to the Radio Times both titles reflecting the fact that they came into existence when there was no television. I also bought Melody Maker or New Music Express most weeks but they were really newspapers I suppose if we're being picky.

I've always been disappointed with magazine writing. I only stick with SFX for, as I've said, the bullet points; I scan most it. But it's the one hour in the month where I sit down and do something that is purely for me – no one is expecting me to write a review of it in three days.Jim Murdochhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12786388638146471193noreply@blogger.com
