‘A Pocket Universe’

We lost power again around noon Saturday. No idea when it will be restored. Here is “The Next Book,” a 1969 poem by James Hayford (Star in the Shed Window: Collected Poems 1933-1988, New England Press, 1989):

 “May the next book you read 

Be what you need— 

 

“A pocket universe 

Ample yet terse, 

 

“And offering connections 

In all directions.”
