My son Michael,
17, had a call first thing this morning from Sen. Ted Cruz’s office. He has
been accepted into the United States Naval Academy. I couldn’t be prouder. When
I told Joseph Epstein, he replied: “I have long thought that I should rather
have U.S. Marines on my resume than Harvard, Yale, Princeton, or any other
school you might name.” This, in turn, reminded me of Ishmael’s boast: “a
whale-ship was my Yale College and my Harvard.”
